Homeopathy is a form of alternative medicine. Although at present there is no scientific
evidence for this, Homeopathy is believed to work on the principle that "like
cures like", meaning that a substance which can induce an illness can also be used
to cure this illness.
Homeopathy believes that illness is a whole-person process. In practice, this
means that symptoms will always be put into the perspective of the whole patient's
medical and personal history. In this way homeopathy is a truly wholistic therapy,
and it very much concentrates on helping the body to heal itself.
Homeopathic remedies are mostly prepared from plant or mineral substances which
have been diluted and succussed (potentized by shaking). The finished products are
supplied in either tablet or liquid form.
A homeopathic consultation involves a thorough investigation of the patient's health
and personal history. This is most important, as homeopathy recognises that any
unresolved event – emotional or physical – may cause a lasting imbalance which will
eventually be expressed in physical illness.
The consultation may last up to 1.5 hours and gives the patient plenty of time to
explain his symptoms and emotional or mental accompanying state.
What happens during a homeopathy consultation?
There are no physical examinations. Instead, you are encouraged to explore the nature
of your complaint through a set of guided questions.
The consultation takes the form of a conversation between client and practitioner,
with even the most apprehensive person soon relaxing and enjoying the process.
Areas such as inheritance, life-style, past and present emotional states, as well
as personal likes and dislikes are explored to arrive at a complete picture of you
as an individual.
The homeopathic practitioner has nearly 2000 homeopathic remedies to choose from
and so needs a considerable amount of time to find the best match for you as an
individual.
The initial consultation takes up to 2 hours. Follow-up consultations take about
45 mins.
What does homeopathic therapy entail?
The therapy is given in the form of homeopathic remedies. These can be supplied
in tablet or liquid form and may need to be taken monthly, weekly, or daily, for
a set amount of time.
One week after the consultation I encourage you to give me feedback (free of charge)
via email or telephone to ensure the remedies are working as intended.
As part of the therapy, you may notice subtle changes in your physical, mental,
or emotional state. My modern approach minimises unpleasant reactions whilst
aiming at a gradual and gentle improvement.
What is the duration of the therapy?
This depends on the nature of the complaint and your individual make-up.
At the end of the first consultation, I aim to give a prognosis as to the likely
length of therapy.
How often do I need to come and see you?
This depends on your individual state of health, but in most cases I initially recommend
monthly visits.
